Steiff has a century-plus long tradition of creating exciting and eye catching displays to help show off their toys in store windows. These merchandisers are also created entirely by hand in the company’s design and manufacturing facilities in Germany. This is a marvelous example of the company’s “Chinese Junk” boat display. This piece was only made for a handful of years in the early to mid-1950’s. Displays like this one are a breathtaking way for collectors to display the company’s miniature animals of the same era. The ship is made from light wood, paper mache, burlap, fabrics, string, and cardboard. It is beautifully and elaborately painted and detailed from end to end; its “carved” figurehead is particularly eye catching. The ship includes a base, ladder, plank, and flag, and is “branded” on its large sail. Despite its size, it is relatively lightweight and easily portable. Condition: As noted. In clean, very good to excellent condition. Provenance: From the collection of long-time Steiff archivist Dick Franz.
Item Dimensions: 40 - 1/2" L.
