This wooden scooter is called Rollux and was produced for two years only, from 1950 through 1951. It measures 36 inches tall and 38 inches wide. The pattern is based on a large and popular series of similar Steiff wooden scooters produced in the c. 1920-1940 time frame. It is made in two parts and is detachable. The base and steering are made from wood and the wheels are metal with black rubber tires. The metal hardware is blue. All components show extensive playwear. With nonworking bell. Scooter is decorated with red and yellow stenciled artwork, including two Steiff bears. With additional metal tag indicating where it was originally purchased in Stuttgart, Germany. Condition: As noted. Fair condition overall. Provenance: From a fine New England collection.
