Round 34” barrel finished bright, steel front sight and large side mounted bayonet lug, .69 caliber rifled bore, marked at breech “1863/VP (Eagle’s head) F.C.W.” and number “5891” on tang. Unique long range leaf type rear sight to 1,000 yards. First type lock with large eagle motif forward of hammer and marked “WHITNEY-VILLE” and date “1863” stamped at tail, vertically. Black walnut stock with oil finish, steel mounted with “US” stamped on butt plate tang and trigger guard with large spur on rear tang. Encircled “FCW” cartouche behind lock screws; steel ramrod. Complete with period white buff leather sling. Near perfect condition, appears unissued. All surfaces still bright and excellent, bore mint. Stock excellent with a few light storage marks and a very minor chip at front lock screw. This is the finest example we have ever seen.
