4" barrel in .44-40 caliber. The Smith & Wesson No. 3 double action is officially referred to as the Navy Model. This model was introduced in 1881 and all frames were manufactured prior to 1898. This is a First Model chambered for the popular .44 Winchester cartridge in the scarcer 4" barrel length. Gun appears to be nickel finish, but the original finish has been completely cleaned which gives this gun a polished nickel look. Trigger guard retains approximately 70% original blue. The hammer and trigger have been re-blued. Grips are near mint, but are slightly shy to metal having been replaced. This revolver indexes in both single and double action mode. Has strong pronounced rifling. Sharp edges, side plate is tight with no rounding, and screws are slightly marred. Barrel dates are slightly feathered.
