.58 caliber rifled bore, 40" round barrel with three barrel bands retained by springs, front sight/bayonet lug on top near muzzle and one-leaf flip-up rear sight. Percussion lock with flat beveled hammer behind eagle motif and “U.S. SPRINGFIELD” and “1864” on tail. Steel furniture with sling swivels and steel ramrod, butt plate tang stamped “US”. Walnut stock. Complete with U.S. marked bayonet. Good condition, shows signs of extensive use. Barrel with speckled brown patina overall with some areas of light pitting, no visible markings. Lock with heavier brown patina, markings very good, bolster face pitted. Furniture retains dark brown patina with some scattered pitting. Bayonet good, scattered brown spots and light pitting. A good example of one of the most widely used Civil War muskets. This was the last primary issue U.S. muzzle loading long arm.
