Pre Mexican War. Round 42” barrel marked “V/P” over eagle’s head and “1845” on tang, secured by three steel barrel bands, bayonet lug on bottom near muzzle, .69 caliber smoothbore. Percussion lock marked with eagle motif over “US” in center of lock and “SPRINGFIELD 1845” vertically on tail. Steel furniture and sling swivels, steel ramrod, butt plate tang marked “US”. Walnut stock. Complete with bayonet with 17-3/4” triangular blade marked “US”. Good condition, barrel spotted and with brown patina, breech and tang pitted, lock grey with some light pitting, markings excellent, and furniture with grey patina. Stock very good, light marks from use. Bayonet excellent, bright with some light scattered pitting.
