This rifle was made between 1863 and 1865, with a total production of 12, 501. Round 33” barrel marked “1863/VP (Eagle’s head proof) STEEL R.K.A.” near breech, .58 caliber rifled bore. Steel front sight and side-mounted bayonet lug, rear sight with two flip-up leaves. Lock stamped with eagle over “U.S.” in front of hammer along with “REMINGTON’S/ILION N.Y.” and dated “1863” on tail. Walnut stock with brass furniture and steel sling swivels, butt plate marked “US” on top, small brass patch box. Two cartouches stamped behind rear lock screw “RK” and “HDJ”. Steel ramrod. Complete with Yatigan saber bayonet, cast brass hilt stamped “C” and 20” single fuller bright steel blade stamped “I”. Leather scabbard with brass mounts. Good condition, lock and barrel with brown patina and scattered pitting overall, heavier around breech, barrel markings somewhat worn. Stock very good, one cartouche light, scattered marks from use. Brass furniture with unpolished patina and old coating. Bayonet very good, scattered marks from use.
