Made by M.P. Ames in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dated 1837. 34" quillback blade with etched "United States" on left side, right side is etched "M.P. Ames Cutler Springfield 1837" with "T.W." inspector mark. Original buff leather washer. Perfect leather grip and twisted wire wrap. Correct inspector marks on blade. Drag is inspected. Handguard is "W.S." inspector stamped. Metal scabbard has double hangers, is basically brown patina, and has some pitting. Extremely nice, early, untouched, pre-Civil War U.S. sword.
