This lot consists of two Dietz skater’s lanterns, one of which has a chain and the other has a handle. The lantern with the chain has it connecting to the top of the lantern where holes are present for the heat to escape. On the top of this lantern, Paid Dec 24 1867 is stamped. At the end of the chain, there is a small oval charm that says “A. Bonzano”. Pat April 5 1864 is stamped into the glass. There is also a knob to adjust the flame. The underside of this lantern is red. This lantern, not including the chain is approximately 9-1/2 inches tall. The other lantern, which has a handle also has holes on the top. The holes at the very top appear to be in a star pattern. On the base of the lantern and on the glass, Dietz Racket New York U.S.A. is stamped. Including the handle, this lantern is approximately 13-1/4 inches tall, without the handle it is approximately 7-3/8 inches tall. On both lanterns, the wick has been cut. Overall these lanterns are in good condition, however there are dents and scratches present on both.
