This very appealing early postwar Steiff riding bear is standing on all fours and is unjointed. He is made from brown mohair with a tan mohair insert muzzle. He has felt pads and black claws on each paw. His face is detailed with large black and brown pupil eyes, a black hand embroidered nose and mouth, and pert ears. Bear rides upon a metal carriage with four red wheels with black rubber tires. He has a pull voice cord. Although originally made as toys for children, these early Steiff ride-on animals were made so solidly that they could easily support the weight of adults when they were new. This ride-on bear retains his most desirable block letter style Steiff button and yellow ear tag. This mohair model was produced post war in 8 sizes ranging from 28 to 100 cm from 1949-1957 overall. This example is from the earliest part of that time frame. Condition: As noted. In clean, very good condition. Provenance: From a fine Ohio collection.

Item Dimensions: 25" L.
