24" barrel in .38 rimfire caliber. These rifles were manufactured 1862 to 1865 and are marked "Ball & Williams" as well as "Merwin & Bray". This is a sporting rifle with full octagon barrel. Has the two-leaf folding military rear sight. Barrel is a pleasing smooth mix of blue, starting to patina, with razor sharp edges. The frame case colors have faded to gun metal grey. Original stocks are excellent, proud to metal, with no cracks. Strong clean bore. Fine action. Far above average pre-Civil War sporting rifle.
