12 bore, 30" blued steel barrels with solid matte rib and single steel bead, left barrel "improved modified" choke, right barrel cylinder choke, 2 - 1/2" chambers. The rib marked "CHARLES BOSWELL. MAKER. 126. STRAND. LONDON. WC.", rib engraved with scrolls near breech. Ejectors, automatic safety, double triggers and scroll engraved blue trigger guard. Sides of action are casehardened, bottom of action blued and with scroll engraving. Boxlock action, engraved with scroll work and panel scenes; the right side with three pheasants, the other side has three grouse. Both sides are marked, "CHARLES BOSWELL". Figured walnut stock with checkered semi pistol grip, carved panels terminating in tear drop behind each side of the action, 14 - 3/8" LOP to the horn buttplate and vacant gold oval escutcheon on underside of stock. Drop at comb is 1 - 1/2" and drop at heel is 2 - 1/4". Splinter fore-end, checkered and having Anson release. Condition is excellent, as redone. Barrels retain 98% of reblued finish. Action retains 50%-60% of fading case colors. Underside of rib beneath forend has two drilled holes. Stock is excellent as well with a few light storage marks. Shiny bores. Charles Boswell had worked for Thomas Gooch and the Enfield factory before establishing himself in 1872. He manufactured guns until 1922. He was a very skillful gun maker and also pigeon shot, the firms prominence rested on their capability to build live bird guns. And with that, leaves you with an outstanding boxlock shotgun.
