26" barrel in .303 Savage caliber. This was the first rifle manufactured in the lever action line that was to become the famous Model 1899. Features a full octagon barrel, sporting sights, blued finish, walnut stocks, and rifle buttplate. Barrel is a smooth mix of blue-brown patina. Has an unusual rear sight. Frame and lever are a grey-brown soft patina. Has the cartridge counter on the left side and safety hole on top of bolt. Buttstock has matching numbers. Someone has taken the wrist down a bit and there are two holes as if a sight was once installed. There a couple minor hairline cracks. Wood was refinished and is shy to metal and has a chip at toe. Strong rifled bore. Fine action. Someone put some kill notches on end of forend. Forearm has been refinished and is shy to the metal as well.
