26" barrel in .38-40 caliber. Manufactured 1889. Referred to as the medium frame Lightning it was chambered for the popular calibers as used in the Colt Single Action Army and Model 1878. Features full round barrel, full magazine, blue finish, two piece checkered walnut forend, and a straight grip walnut buttstock with rifle butt. This early model is also referred to as as open top, as there is no dust cover. The barrel and frame retains 85-90% of the reapplied blue finish, while the magazine reapplied finish has turned a blue-brown patina. Barrel legends are sharp as new. Front sight blade replaced but base is original. Original rear sporting sight. Forend has a couple of repaired cracks and has been refinished with little original checkering present. Refinished stock is very good to excellent, slightly shy to metal, and a barely discernable toe repair. Tang is missing the top filler screw. Action is perfect. Strong rifled bore.
