6-1/2" barrel in .38 Special caliber. This model is often referred to as the .38-44 Outdoorsman. Model numbers were assigned in 1957. This revolver was known as the Model 23. It is a .38 caliber target revolver built on the large M frame square butt which would allow the use of heavy loads. Features six shot, double action, blued finish, case colored target hammer and trigger, high Patridge front sight, adjustable rear sight, serrated top rib, revolver has matching numbers on yolk and cylinder. The grips are silver medallion diamond checkered walnut magnas, but are numbered to a different gun. This revolver has seen some well cared for use, there is muzzle wear, the barrel is thinning to gray at the breech on both sides as is the frame at that point. There is a cylinder drag line, but safely retains approximately 93% original blue. The walnut grips are excellent of the period with no cracks, action is perfect. Strong clean bore. Factory letter confirms all of the above and this revolver was shipped on May 25, 1954 to Pierce Hardware Co. Taunton, Massachusetts.
