Two stage 29-1/8” steel barrels inlaid “W. Poppe in Berlin” in silver across top flats. One .65 caliber rifled bore and the other a .69 caliber smoothbore. Patent breech and tang both finely engraved. Dovetailed front sight and large rear sight. Flat lock plates engraved with scrolls and foliage patterns, cocks with detailed relief lion heads engraved en suite with lock plates, right lock plate inlaid “W. Poppe” in silver and the other “in Berlin”, thumb safeties behind each hammer and double triggers. Two-piece engraved steel butt plate with urn-shaped finial. German silver shield-shaped wrist escutcheon with unidentified family crest engraved on it. German silver barrel key escutcheons and steel ramrod ferrules, thick ornate horn trigger guard with relief carved oak leaf finial. Figured walnut stock with shaped checkered panels on wrist and forend, sliding wood patch box on right side of buttstock, inlay carved with relief oak leaves behind entry ferrule, large oval-shaped cheek piece on left side of buttstock, ebony ramrod with replaced bone tip. Very good condition with steel components retaining an even brown patina with scattered dark spots. Stock very good, but about 1/8” to 1/4” has been removed between front of locks and nose cap on each side of forend.
