20" barrel in .44-40 caliber. Manufactured in 1880. Offered is a fine, early, all original Model 1873 carbine in .44 caliber. Manufactured when the West was still Wild, it is standard in all respects and features full round barrel, full magazine, two bands, post front sight, two leaf folding 1866 style rear sight, saddle ring and stud, walnut stocks, and carbine buttplate. This carbine has seen use. All metal is a grey-brown patina. Barrel legends are perfect. Loading gate still has some blue on it. Wood is very good with expected use. Forearm has a crack and is shy to frame with pommel wear. Buttstock is very good, no cracks, proud to metal at lower and upper tang. Action is perfect. Visible rifling with usual black powder residue. it is housed in an original 1870-80's Browning Bros., Utah leather scabbard with original straps which is the first of these that we have seen from the original Browning Bros. gun shop in Ogden, Utah. Extremely handsome early Western Rig that has the "look".
