Barrel length is 7-1/2", caliber is .38 rim fire. These revolvers were manufactured by Ely Whitney of New Haven. The Whitney Navy was manufactured in the 1850-1860's. Features full octagon barrel, six shot, single action, with two piece garnished walnut grips. This is a fourth type. There are flashes or original nickel finish on barrel, but gun is basically a smooth soft brown patina with sharp legends and no cancer. Grips are very good to excellent, cylinder indexes perfectly, strong rifling. A vast majority of Civil War hand guns were from the Colt firm and seldom do you see a Whitney conversion offered for sale. This is a clean sharp all original fine conversion. It is housed in an excellent period slim Jim holster with early money belt and nickel plated California clip point buckle. The belt holds seven original .38 rim fire cartridges. Great early gun fighters/Cowboy rig that saw use on the plains immediately after the Civil War.
