Barrel length is 5” in .45 ACP caliber. This is a very early US Army pistol that was manufactured near the end of the 1912 production. Left side of frame is stamped “United States Property” and has the Walter G Penfield inspector stamp used from 1911 to 1914 only. In addition, it has the "A.A." Augusta Arsenal re-build stamp. Inside frame is stamped "H1". Left side of slide has the patent dates ending with August 19, 1913 with pony at rear. Right side of slide is stamped “Model of 1911 US Army”. The slide markings are from a pistol circa post 1913 that began with serial No. 83856. The barrel is stamped with "P over H" in line with the bore which began at serial no. 110000. Has the type one hammer with short wide spur, checkered slide stop and safety. Original diamond checkered walnut grips, long smooth trigger and the type four front sight, later type two rear sight and a post WWI magazine. Gun retains approximately 80% of the Augusta arsenal re-blue which is thinning on the slide edges and top. The flat main spring housing with lanyard is brown patina. Bore is shiny but rifling is barely visible. Given that this gun was re-done in blue, it could be assumed that the Augusta re-build took place prior to the second World War.
