Round 42” barrel in .78 caliber smoothbore with engraved tapering panel terminating a sunburst, two British proof marks on left side near breech. Small notched rear sight and dovetailed bone front sight behind traces of silver spider sight. Rounded lock with East India Company prancing lion stamped in center and reinforced cock, double set triggers. Full length walnut stock with club butt and large relief cheek piece on left side of butt stock, incised curl carved from cheek piece. Brass furniture includes butt plate with stepped bell-shaped finial, square-back trigger guard with deeply etched lines in bow and three sets of three engraved lines across tangs, rear tang terminates in a thumbnail design. Two-piece side plate and very simple ramrod ferrules. Appears to once have had a long nose cap, which is no longer present. Possibly American assembled. Very good condition, steel surfaces have been cleaned bright and now have scattered areas of light pitting, markings clear. Stock very good, as refinishes, with several cracks from age in forend, scattered marks from use.
