Round 42” barrel marked “V/P” over eagle’s head and “1848” on tang, secured by three steel barrel bands, bayonet lug on bottom near muzzle, .69 caliber smoothbore. Percussion lock marked with eagle motif over “US” in center of lock and “SPRINGFIELD 1848” vertically on tail. Steel furniture and sling swivels, steel ramrod, butt plate tang marked “US”. Walnut stock with two clear cartouches on left side of stock behind rear lock screw. Complete with bayonet. Very good condition, all steel components with light brown patina and clear markings, muzzle with a few nicks. Stock very good, light marks from use. Bayonet good, brown patina and lightly pitted overall.
