Round 32-5/8” barrel secured by two steel barrel bands and marked with “VP (eagle’s head) P” forward of breech block, in .45-70 caliber rifled bore. Front bayonet lug sight, rear sight 1884 type. Breech block marked “US MODEL 1873”, lock plate marked “U.S. SPRINGFIELD” and stamped with eagle motif forward of hammer. Blued steel furniture, butt plate marked “US” on tang. Walnut stock marked on right side of butt with large “22” in paint, angled-corner cartouche dated “1882”. Steel cleaning rod. Complete with unmarked socket bayonet with triangular blade and blued scabbard, leather frog and gilt brass “US” marked hanger. Good condition, retains some blue on lock, but steel components mostly turned brown, markings on breech block are worn, scattered marks from use, markings very good. Stock with some minor chips around lock plate and scattered marks from use, letters worn on cartouche. Bayonet excellent. Bore very good with some frosted areas.
