Round 44-3/4” barrel with bayonet lug mounted on top near muzzle and breech marked with “D” and small proof mark of crossed quill pens on left side in .75 caliber smoothbore. Flat lock plate with beveled edges engraved “Charleville” in script and crown over “D” proof behind pan. Typical steel Charleville furniture. Walnut stock of full length stamped on left side of buttstock with large “D” and punch-dot initials “JK” on buttstock and behind side plate. Complete with original French Model 1754 socket bayonet with 14 inch triangular blade marked “JB” in two places and surcharged with “US”; good condition with dark patina and some marks from use. Very good condition with steel components retaining a grey patina with scattered dark spots; top jaw screw replaced, probably during period of use. Stock very good with small holes above and below lock tail. Done in period for oiling the lock, scattered marks from use and some minor losses along barrel. Original flintlock. The Charleville was one of the main arms used during the Revolutionary War by both French and American troops alike. This is an excellent example of a very historic musket.
