Octagon 39-3/4”heavy target barrel in .65 caliber rifled bore with false muzzle stamped “DS” on left flat, near breech. Dovetailed hooded front sight with piece of carved bone filling another dovetail forward of sight, permanent notched rear ramp sight is missing ramp, closer to tang is a unique peep sight of wood framed steel, empty sight dovetail on each side. Flat lock was probably originally flint, lock plate unmarked. Heavy full-length stock without finish and having recessed flat section for rest towards the muzzle with two iron spikes protruding to keep rifle in place. Carved cheek piece wrapped with rawhide with generous traces of hair on left side of butt stock. Made without butt plate. Plain flat steel side plate held in place by six screws, plain sheet steel trigger guard, and double set triggers. Fair condition, heavy dark brown patina and heavy wear on steel components. Heavy pitting near breech, action does not function. Stock dark and having scattered marks from use. Some losses around lock and breech, scattered minor cracks. Includes documentation which states that this rifle came from the Hershey Museum auction on April 28, 2012.
