Cal .38 rimfire, barrel length 3-1/2". Approximately 2000 of these revolvers were manufactured in 1873 to 1875. These are referred to as "Pocket Navy Round Barrel Richards-Mason Conversions" Manufactured using new and percussion era parts to allow use of the bored through cylinder. This revolver features: nickel plated finish with the nitre finished screws. Varnished one piece walnut grips. This revolver has all matching numbers with the exception of the cylinder which has the number plate blank. Original grips are excellent, retain most of the original varnish. Traces of the brass showing through on the trigger guard and backstrap. 100% near perfect stage coach scene on cylinder. Action is perfect, strong clean, near mint bore. 50% bright nitre blue on screws. 90% original nickel finish with usual age freckling. This revolver has not seen much use and appears to be simple aging. What is even more interesting, it is housed in a period leather saddle bag that features border tooling. Inside the right bag is a hid-a-way holster. These type of saddle bags were used by Pony Express mail riders for carrying payroll, letters and mail. As such, a hide-a-way gun would come in handy in case of a hold up.
