This bust depicts "The Mother" as she holds her child. Her soft features are enhanced by the soft colors used to portray her, which is rare as most of the works by R. Monti are not colored. As she looks at her sleeping child, she holds the baby close to her chest and behind her blue and gold veil. The bust rests atop of a small pedestal that has a floral motif. On the verso of the bust, the signature R. Monti 1871 is present. Raffaello Monti was an Italian sculptor who lived during the nineteenth century. Also on the back of the bust, more stamps can be found. The work is approximately 14 inches tall. Overall the bust is in good condition.
