A fascinating machine, there are only a few of these known to exist today. By depositing a penny and pulling the handle, one would use the skill button in an attempt to stop a horse at the winning post. If successful, the contents of the glass tube behind the horse would empty into the pay cup. There are nine glass pay tubes, one directly behind each of the nine horses. Each tube might have a different amount of coins within depending upon the rotation of the various horses and depending upon when a coin drops into the tube (as opposed to the coin dropping into the cash box). This in simple terms and by comparison would be similar to a typical American “jacks” machine such as the Rockola 5 Jacks & the differing amounts in the various pockets. Truly an ingenious machine and exciting to play! Somewhat massive in size compared to a normal slot machine and although of English manufacture I would place/compare this machine in the same category as the Superior Horse Race machine! Probably not original to the machine but a light is within so players could see the mechanism but more importantly all of the various coin tube jackpots! The wooden cabinet is intact as are the metal castings, the cosmetics were restored a number of years ago. Includes one key.
