The Henry Troemner Company of Philidelphia has been making scales since 1844 and they were so accurate that Henry himself made the scales for multiple U.S. Mints and the Department of the Treasury. The scale offered displays his skills beautifully. It was listed in the 1899 Troemner catalog as a #24 Analytical Style Balance with a 200 oz. capacity and offered for $97.50. It is predominantly machined brass and features a brass pan and the perfectly matched hanging tare weight. The whole balance can be put to rest when manipulating loads by rotating the handle that protrudes from the front of the wood and glass cabinet that protects the balance and shields the measurement from air currents. The cabinet's front panel easily slides up to allow access and has a full length drawer that contains a set of weights that are measured in troy ounces. The cabinet also has brass leveling feet and a circular bubble level behind the fulcrum. It is fair to say that this is the most precise antique scale to come through our gallery and an example of when engineering and workmanship transcend into art.
