This is the folding Bowie version of the modern Swiss knife. Circa 1850. Overall length with main blade opened 14", main blade length 6". Features three blades in three different sizes and a large folding corkscrew. Largest blade, clip point, swedge on both sides half the length of blade. Stamped on the blade "G. Wostenholm & Son Washington Works Sheffield". Stamped on haft in large letters "IXL". Second largest blade, abbreviated spear point, stamped on haft IXL logo, swedge on both sides half the length of the blade. Light to moderate pitting in places, rest of steel turned grey, tip missing. Small blade which is actually still quite large, swedge entire length on back, front third on the left side with thumbnail groove for opening the rest of the blade. IXL logo on haft. Very large corkscrew, marked with the same markings as main blade on rear of haft. Ivory scales, enhanced with six rivets each side, name plate inlaid on right side. All mounts German silver. Unusual crossguard, floral engraved. Coffin hilted pommel with half horse, half alligator. German silver lanyard loop on swivel attached, original to knife. Nicks and dents to top and bottom of pommel decoration. Lockback working. Have never seen another one of these, assume it to be a special order, one of a kind.
