Throughout this sale there will be a good many things made with horseshoe designs and they will always be masculine in nature, the reason being that men wore their gold quartz when they got dressed to go out, a lot of times it would be to gamble and the horseshoe is a symbol of good luck. These are made of rose gold with no karat markings, so they are early in the Gold Rush period. Each horseshoe is enhanced with three panels of quartz; two grey and one black. Seven nails are depicted, again this means good luck because when you roll dice, if you roll a seven you automatically win. There is a presentation on the back of each stud "C.R. to M.P." and "Co 9", this shows that they were given as a gift to a fire chief from the firehouse Company No. 9.
