Circa 1820 to 1830. OL: 59 - 1/2". BL: 44". TB: Octagon to round. LM: Flintlock. PB: 4-piece. S: Curly Maple. Incise carving. This signed "Samuel Sweitzer" Kentucky rifle is quite pleasing with a nicely engraved and pierced patchbox, toe-plate, and sideplate. The style of this rifle appears to be on the East Bank of the Susquehanna river, just above Harrisburg, PA. The wrist checkering and the rear ramrod ferrule incised carvings are its two wood embellishments with the curly maple stock having its old finish. Other than the reconverted flintlock and an eight-inch long tapered sliver of added wood behind the nose-cap, it has most of its original condition.
KENTUCKY RIFLE.
