Circa 1830 to 1840. OL: 60". BL: 43". TB: Octagonal. LM: Flintlock. Obvious re-conversion. PB: 4-piece. S: Curly Maple. Relief carving. One silver inlay. This Kentucky rifle, with a fully engraved and multiple-pierced brass patchbox may have been made in New York state, but is unsigned. All of the brass metalwork, including a cheek-side plate inlay, are well-engraved. There are wood repairs around the lock area and beside the left tang of the curly maple stock, which has been replaced from the rear ramrod ferrule forward 33 inches to the muzzle of the barrel, which has been lengthened 18 inches. The percussion lock has been converted to flintlock.
