OL: 52 - 1/2”. BL: 37 - 1/4”. TB: Octagonal. LM: Flintlock. Replaced and obvious re-conversion. PB: 4-piece. S: Curly maple. Incise carving. Three brass inlays and one bone inlay. This most interesting Kentucky rifle is stamped “J.M. Caswell” on top of the octagonal barrel. The brass pierced and engraved patchbox is very pleasing and an ivory inlay with the compass is set into one of the finial’s piercings. There is an engraved wear plate, comb plate, and a plate between the trigger guard and the toe-plate. A large crescent moon is inlaid on the cheek side along with the owner’s name “Oliver Darby” engraved on a cheekpiece inlay plate.
