Circa 1830 to 1840. OL: 56 - 1/2". BL: 41 - 1/4". TB: Octagonal. LM: Flintlock. PB: 4-piece. Incise carving. One silver inlay. This Kentucky is signed "William Britton" of Hampshire County, Virginia and is in "as-found" condition with breaks and cracks in the stock. This rifle has incised typical pattern of the Winchester School as well as wrist carving and its original old surface. The brass patchbox engraving is typical of his work. The rifle has a percussion lock, probably replaced, which is now converted to flintlock.
