Circa 1820 to 1830. OL: 58 - 3/4". BL: 43". TB: Octagon to round. LM: Flintlock. Replaced. PB: 4-piece. S: Curly Maple. One brass inlay and two silver inlays. This signed "L. Reedy" rife is a rarity because very few were signed. This rifle has an exceptional pierced, patchwork and elongated pierced toe-plate, in addition to a comb-plate and fore-arm "wearplate". The rifle has Reedy's classic carving pattern behind and in front of the cheek piece, although there is no tang carving. The barrel tang has been lengthened and lock itself is a modern replacement as is the forestock from the rear ramrod ferrule forward. However, the 43-inch octagonal to round barrel, although lightly pitted is its original length. Otherwise the original wood from the rear ferrule back to the buttplate has an original finish and the newer forestock has been colored/finished to match.
KENTUCKY RIFLE.
