Circa 1850 to 1860. OL: 52". BL: 35 - 1/2". TB: Octagonal. LM: Percussion. Original. PB: 4-piece. S: Walnut. Incise carving. One silver inlay. This iron-mounted half-stock Fordney rifle is signed "J. Fordney, Lancaster, PA" on the barrel. All of the iron mounts are well-engraved and there are two silver inlays, both signifying owner's names. The eagle/shield inlay on the stock's cheek piece is engraved "I.W. Cooper from his Father", and the silver inlay on the buttstock's underside in engraved "W. Cooper, 1856". The wrist checkering is very finely done. This half-stock, although late, is a prime example of the fine quality of the Fordney Family's work.
KENTUCKY RIFLE.
