Circa 1815 to 1825. OL: 56". BL: 41". TB: Octagonal. LM: Percussion. Replaced in-period. PB: 4-piece. S: Curly Maple. Incise carving and two silver inlays. This unsigned Kentucky rifle is easily attributed to Adam Angstadt as the patchbox and its classic attractive engraving is a hallmark of his work. The incised carving behind the cheekpiece of this curly maple stock is also a signature of his work along with a scalloped, elongated toe-plate. The rifle was originally a flintlock but is now in a percussion state with its "in-period" replaced percussion lock. The pleasing curly maple stock has no repairs and excellent architecture.
