Circa 1820 to 1830. OL: 57 - 3/4". BL: 42 - 1/2". TB: Octagonal. LM: Percussion. Original. PB: 4-piece. S: Curly Maple. Incise carving. This signed "J. Snavely" Kentucky rifle is a Harrisburg gun, influenced by the work of John Ford, also of Harrisburgh. The percussion lock is original to the rifle as most of the curly maple stock. The upper 12 inches of the forestock are replaced although the rifle barrel is its original length. There is an old glued break of the fore-arm behind the rear ramrod ferrule. While uncarved, the forestock has deep channel molding and the four-piece patchbox has nice engraving.
KENTUCKY RIFLE.
