Circa 1810 to 1825. OL: 58 - 1/4". BL: 43 - 1/2". TB: Octagonal. LM: Flintlock. PB: 4-piece. SR: Center of forestock is an old re-glue but still intact. This unsigned Kentucky rifle is stamped "Henry" on the side barrel flat and may be the maker or the gunsmith who converted the gun to percussion. The artificially striped maple stock has a stepped-toe profile which is an early feature occasionally used in the later period both in Lehigh Valley as well as the Valley of Virginia. The patchbox is exceptional in its overall length, piercings, and bold engraving. In addition. the rifle's stock has an old re-glue in the center of its forestock and a nice original patina, accompanied by a flamboyant rear ramrod ferrule, an elaborate toe-plate, pierced sideplate, and two silver double-acorn inlays. The cheek piece has an embossed, silver plated "running deer" brass inlay inlaid on it. The muzzle has been shortened approximately half to three-quarters of an inch.
KENTUCKY RIFLE.
