Circa 1810 to 1820. OL: 60". BL: 44 - 1/4". TB: Octagonal. LM: Flintlock. Obvious re-conversion and replaced. PB: 4-piece. S: Curly Maple. This signed "John Bear" rifle has a very fine curly maple stock, a daisy headed patchbox, and is original throughout with the exception of the replaced flintlock and brass id plate. John Bear originally worked in Lakcaster County but later moved to York County. This example appears to have been made in Lancaster County and is a classic example of an unembellished rifle; however, the outstanding curly maple stock and its overall condition makes it attractive and desirable.
KENTUCKY RIFLE.
