Circa 1800 to 1820. OL: 59 - 3/4". BL: 43 - 3/4". TB: Octagon to round. LM: Flintlock. PB: None. Relief and incise carvings. This unsigned Kentucky fowler is a fine example of the Atland Family's rifle-making skills. The fowler is a fairly plain maple stock with very fine relief carving behind and in front of the lock piece. In addition to the lock and the sideplate there is very nice incised carving around the rear ramrod ferrule. The muzzle of the barrel ha been lengthened approximately three inches and the forestock is lengthened by sixteen inches. The trigger guard has the upper and lower extensions re-shaped or added. This long, graceful fowler with fine carving is one that could be enhanced with better restoration and is very worthy of doing so.
KENTUCKY RIFLE.
