Circa 1810 to 1820. OL: 59 - 3/4". BL: 44". TB: Octagonal. LM: Flintlock. Obvious re-conversion. PB: 4-piece. S: Curly Maple. Ten silver inlays. This rifle, attributed to Holtzworth of Lancaster, has a bold curly maple stock which shows some wear at its checkered-wrist and has a replaced trigger guard, toe-plate, and slightly damaged buttplate. All of the silver inlays are replaced with German silver. There are two patches fore and aft of the lock, a re-conversion, and a two-inch patch at the nose cap. However, its salient feature is the very desirable, boldly engraved, "Rattlesnake" patchbox, a feature occasionally seen on signed Holtzworth examples.
KENTUCKY RIFLE.
