OL: 51 - 3/4". BL: 43 - 3/4". TB: Octagonal. LM: Percussion. PB: 4-piece. S: Curly Maple. SR: Patched at top of lock. 15 mother of pearl inlays and 15 silver inlays. This rifle, signed "J. Thomas", has an especially ornate pierced patch box with nice, original surface. The cheek piece inlay is a classic "spread-winged eagle" inlay. This gunsmith was an excellent engraver and engraved two three-mast ships on the patch box lid. One is at full sail, the other is at anchor. This is a very unique motif on a Kentucky Rifle and may indicate its origin of being close to one of the Great Lakes.
KENTUCKY RIFLE.
