Circa 1840 to 1850. OL: 58 - 1/4". BL: 42 - 3/4". TB: Octagonal. LM: Flintlock. PB: 4-piece. S: Curly Maple. Relief carving. Six silver inlays. The engraved brass plate "EA Gray" on the top of the barrel is correct as is the beautiful, crisp relief carving surrounding the cheekpiece. However, the forestock starting from behind the rear ferrule is replaced, with patches back near the trigger guard. The silver oval eagle inlay on the cheekpiece is replaced as is the patchbox lid. The lock was originally made as a percussion but has now been converted to flintlock. There are several original silver acorn inlays, along with a beautifully pieced patchbox.
