Circa 1840 to 1850. OL: 54 - 3/4". BL: 38 - 1/2". TB: Octagonal. LM: Percussion. Original. PB: 4-piece. S: Curly Maple. Incise carving. Two silver inlays. This Kentucky has a signed script "John Painter" on the barrel, which might place it in Southern Virginia near the Green Briar region. The patchbox is attractively pierced and engraved, as is the long toe-plate with its pierced hearts and acorns. This rifle, other than the patchbox lids, is in original, untouched, as found condition with missing silvers along both sides of the forestock.
KENTUCKY RIFLE.
