Two stage octagonal barrel with centered rear sight engraved with two lines on each side and teardrop shaped brass front sight. Flat lockplate reconverted to flintlock configuration with brass pan. Brass furniture includes faceted trigger guard, ramrod ferrules and large entry ferrule with fleur-de-lis and two engraved birds heads. Beveled sideplate of familiar Bucks County form and buttplate with toenail shaped tang, open-ended nosecap engraved with two sets of double lines. One piece side-opening patchbox engraved with Schuler-style propeller. Silver oval wrist escutcheon inscribed "JCS" and an oval inlay above the cheekpiece, engraved with daisy. Full length figured maple stock of typical Bucks County form, carved with incised scrolls behind cheeckpiece and on both sides of wrist. Tang carved with incised bell flower. Long cheekpiece, typical of Bucks County, forend engraved with deep groove on each side. Brass tipped wooden ramrod. Very good condition as refinished. Barrel retains dark brown patina with some wear and pitting around breech. Lock has been professionally reconverted to flintlock configuration. Brass retains a darkening patina with some scattered marks. Stock and carving are excellent with a few minor cracks, two small pieces of wood replaced, one above front of lockplate and one above front of sideplate and some scattered marks from use.
CORRECTION: The last 3" of the forend have been professionally replaced.
