Unmarked but distinctively a product of Isaac Hutton. Silver hilt and pommel with unique knuckle bow origin. The knuckle bow is rasped and there is a tall ferrule at the bottom of the grip. The detailed engraving on the face of the guard is done in very small lines with a deeply engraved shell at the top and bottom. It has stars on the crossguard, which separate the two different areas of the four-slot counter guard. Ivory grip is nicely spiraled with deep spiraling flutes in the center portions. The highly blued and gilt-decorated straight tapered blade is single-edged, except for the last 8" which is double edged. Decorated with patriotic eagle, military motifs and large acanthus leaves at top on each side. The leather scabbard is complete, but in three pieces, and has a shaped silver top mount with a ring and stud and a silver drag. Copy of "American Silver-Hilted Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords by Daniel Hartzler", featuring this sword will be included. Sword is featured on page 513, figure 461. Excellent condition; blade retains 90-95% of its original polish, gilt decoration and bluing with some light rust at top of blade and a few dark areas in polished section. Hilt is polished with excellent engraving, pommel with a few small dents. Grip excellent with some age cracks and a very small chip on bottom, mostly covered by pommel. Scabbard very good but broken into three sections, some losses to black crazed leather. Mounts unpolished.
