Unmarked Albany variation believed to be produced by the Hutton brothers. Silver hilt with pierced heart on sheet silver guard and scalloped edges on right side. Capstan sits on top of fluted and bird's head-shaped pommel. The ivory grip is tapered with bulbous section divided by silver wire wrap. The straight tapered blade has a single center fuller and is engraved. “WELLS & CO NEW YORK" and "WARRANTED” with engraved patriotic eagle and military motifs. Hilt: 5-1/4” Total: 35”. Copy of "American Silver-Hilted Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords by Daniel Hartzler", featuring this sword will be included. Sword is featured on page 517, figure 467. Very good condition; blade retains a grey patina with scattered areas of dark spotting and traces of blue finish. Edge has some minor nicks. Grip retains a yellow patina with some crazing, horizontal age cracks on left side with one small ship from cracking. Hilt polished with some areas having a darker patina.
