Daniel You is the likely maker of this silver foot officer’s sword. Large door knob capstan on olive-shaped one-piece pommel. Stirrup knuckle bow, center guard has a wide loop. Hallmarked “DY” in Roman capitals and a heart cartouche with a perched eagle surrounded by four stars on each side. Reeded ivory grip. Straight tapered spadroon blade with center fuller displaying traces of engraved designs. Hilt: 6”. Total: 38-1/4”. Copy of "American Silver-Hilted Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords by Daniel Hartzler", featuring this sword will be included. Sword is featured on page 381, figure 355. Very good condition; blade retains a grey patina with some scattered dark spots. Grip retains a yellow patina showing a few horizontal cracks from age, one on left side shows some shrinkage or separation. Hilt excellent with a few scattered marks from use, mostly polished.
