Solid silver hooded-eye eagle in flight with tightly layered feathers on the top and under the eye, unusual upturned head. The individual relief feathering on the neck is broader and more rounded on the bottom, with the veins and other intricate plumage not encountered on the pommels. The five ball knuckle bow has a rounded area with a piercing for a sword knot, near intersection with pommel. Same five-ball pattern in the knuckle bow and on the counter guard, with a larger center ball. It is from the same shop as plate 618 on page 681 of "American Silver-Hilted Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords by Daniel Hartzler". This example is unmarked, but was also made by E. Raworth of Tennessee. The straight tapered spadroon blade has a center fuller and is decorated with etched panels surrounded by blued areas with gilt designs. It has a nicely etched liberty cap, an eagle with “E Pluribus Unum” all finely gold gilded, and the bluing ends about the midsection with a vine shape, remainder polished. Hilt: 6-1/4”. Total: 36-1/2”. Copy of "American Silver-Hilted Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords by Daniel Hartzler", featuring this sword will be included. Sword is featured on page 682, figure 619. Excellent condition; blade retains about 40-50% of blue finish and gilt washed designs. Much of original polish is present with some freckling and grey spots. Hilt excellent, ivory grip excellent with some age cracks on left side.
